About Redwood
Bosko's creations are
all hand-carved from solid California redwood, which
is known for its long-lasting beauty and natural
resistance to decay. This is not the case with many
of today's carvings offered by other companies,
which use wood harvested from ancient rain forests
in third world countries, destroying those forests
and further contributing to the depletion of Earth's
ozone layer. We exclusively use the fast-growing
redwood: it is the USA' s most renewable building
material, and state law requires harvest-sites to be
promptly replanted. In fact, due to strict laws
there are more redwoods today than when man first
harvested the trees. And all our creations are
carved here in Southern California by skilled
artisans.
Biography
Bosko was born in Los Angeles 1963 and raised in
Southern California's San Gabriel valley amongst its
mid-century splendor. He received a B.F.A. in 1988
from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena,
California.
Although
best known for his
Tiki sculptures (seen on
www.tikibosko.com ),
ceramics and design work, his current artistic
endeavors include paintings, and three
dimensional assemblages. Our newest wood art
line was inspired by Mr. William Westenhaver's
designs for his legendary company of Witco who
outfitted rooms for Elvis Presley, Hugh Hefner among
others and hundreds of mid century commercial
establishments. After meeting Mr.
Westenhaver in the mid 90's Bosko became spellbound
with the Witco Decor fine art line which was carved
by hand yet created on an assembly line, you can
view it's effect on Bosko's work on our framed page.
Bosko lives on an exotic jungle-like compound in the foot hills of North San Diego County, with
his multi-talented dream wife and two sons. His
work has been exhibited at: La Luz De
Jesus, Track 16, Outré gallery, Tamara Bane, Roc La
Rue, Huntington Beach Art Center, Copro Nason
gallery, M-Modern gallery, Minna gallery, M-1
gallery, Beyond Baroque, Rita Dean gallery and many
others throughout the world. In addition to
that Bosko has outfitted and designed numerous
commercial spaces and private residences with
his custom wood carvings.
